4 Days -“Palaung -Trekking” only forhose fit!

This trip is physically demanding. No strolling, real trekking!

This is a very special experience: Embark with SunBird on a trek to the worlds of the Danu and Palaung peoples near Pindaya in the Shan mountains. To the summit of Mount Yasakyi (1900 m) cared for by porters and the monks of a Buddhist monastery where you are “bedded” on floor mats! Not very comfortable, but the stunning views of a gorgeous country are ample compensation. Meet the hospitable Danu and the equally hospitable Palaung peoples. Perhaps the beginning of a wonderful friendship …

1st Day: YANGON – HEHO – PINDAYA

1-hour morning flight to Heho in the Eastern Shan State. Drive through fertile pastoral lands on a beautiful but windy road to Pindaya. For eight hundred years faithful Buddhists created one of the biggest and most impressive complexes with sacred caves – thousands of goldcoloured Buddha images in the mystical chiaroscuro of a subterranean world of limestone. Accommodation: 1 night

2nd day: PINDAYA – YASAKYI TREKKING

Early morning start: On good tracks with few steep ascends we reach the Danu villages Htut-Ni and Si-Kayan-Inn where our porters serve a snack -1.5 hrs hike. Proceed to See-Kya-Inn village (meaning the village or misty lake) located in the forest mountain – 1 hr – passing through tea leaves plantations. From here onwards the climb gets steeper and rockier – this 1 h hike to Yasakyi is hard labour. There is a large monastery in Yasakyi, a Palaung village, where we shall spend the night (mats on wooden floors) and have our meals. There is ample time to discover the world of the Pa Laung. Accommodation: 1 night at monastery.

3rd day: YASAKYI – TREKKING - PINDAYA

Simple breakfast at monastery and proceed by a magnificent view of the vast country below to Lin Lai Inn and Taung Paw Gyi village – 2 hrs. While walking enjoys the beautiful over looking and we return via a new and well-tended road to Pindaya (2-3 h). Accommodation: 1 night

4th Day: PINDAYA – HEHO – YANGON

Morning drive to HEHO airport and flight to Yangon. Note: You can also travel to Mandalay.
