5 Days - To the Chin Off the beaten track!
If you want to break the ground, this is your trip!
Soft-expedition! To the villages of the Chin and
trekking on Mount Victoria. 3109 m in altitude, Mount Victoria looms
above a vast and pristine jungle. It is particularly stunning when
the rhododendrons are blossoming trees shining in brilliant white
and glowing red as far as the eye can see. Wild roses are blooming,
ferns and orchids grow on jungle giants
Sounds good? Seeing is
better. A tour suitable for all except the handicapped and the
physically impaired. But do not expect any comfort, it is nothing
which the Chin can offer. They are quite a sight with their
spider-web tattoos on their faces
1st Day: BAGAN MINDAT
Early morning start by bus. Our jeeps have left
already. Close to Pakokku we cross the mighty Ayeyarwady on long
tail boats and continue on the other side with the jeeps. Pauk,
Kyauktu and Yaw the day's itinerary. We first travel through the
plains and continue on tracks uphill into the jungle. Simple picnic
lunch en route. If all goes well we will reach after 123 km and
using the last daylight Mindat. 2 nights in the very simple
guesthouse.
2nd Day: EXCURSION PANTAW AND KYARHTO
The day's program includes visits of two
villages of the Chin people: Kyartho and Pantaw. We meet the Chin
and experience their everyday life. The Chin belong to the group of
Dai people. There are about ½ million left. They are Animists and
the women are known for their extravagant facial tattoos however
young Chin girls today follow other ideals of beauty.
3rd Day: MINDAT YAW SAW KANPETLET
A more leisurely day: by jeep on hilly
paths to Yaw and via Saw to Kanpetlet. 2 nights at a very simple
Resort.
4th Day: MOUNT VICTORIA
To the summit! To Ten-Miles-Point using jeeps,
onwards on foot uphill from 2750 to 3109 m. After two to three hours
we reach the summit (309 m difference in altitude), crowned by a
Buddhist stupa. The paths are not steep and in good condition, no
climbing, no roping. Picnic under a giant tree. Back by the same
route to the Resort.
5th Day: KANPETLET BAGAN
Full day΄s travel back to Bagan via a different
route: Aing-gyi, Seikphyu, Chauk are the days stops, simple picnic
lunch en route again. In the evening, after a 151 km drive, the
luxuries of your Bagan hotel will certainly be appreciated. Cheers!
The best travelling time is between December and
February. It is impossible to take this trip during the monsoon
rains (April till October).
We have to get an official permit for you which takes
30 days. Accommodation in Mindat and Kanpetlet is very simple.
Jeeps available in Myanmar are not comparable to our modern
standards so count on occasional motor and tire breakdowns.
